What this workshop sells is hours of looking, and it is worth being blunt about that because it is unusual. A leak in an air conditioning system and an intermittent electrical fault are both found by measurement and elimination, not by fitting a part and hoping, so the figure on the booking form buys you a defined block of diagnostic time and a written answer at the end of it.
What that figure is not is a repair. Once we know what the fault is, you get one price for putting it right, with the part named, and nothing is ordered or fitted until you have said yes. If the answer turns out to be something we do not do, you pay for the diagnosis and we tell you who does.
A repair figure is an estimate until the part is off the car. On a fifteen year old loom a connector can break while it is being separated, and a bolt on a compressor bracket can shear. Neither is anybody's fault and both change the number, so both stop the job for a telephone call rather than appearing on the invoice.
We do not sell sealants, leak stoppers or anything else poured into a system instead of a repair, at any price, to anybody.

A car that flattens its battery over three days has something awake that should be asleep, and the only honest way to find it is to put a meter in series with the battery, let the car go properly to sleep, which on a modern one takes up to forty minutes, and then pull one fuse at a time and watch the number. Between fuses you wait. It is slow, it is dull, and there is no instrument that does it faster.
So the car stays. Two nights is usual; one is sometimes enough and three is occasionally needed on a car that only drains in the heat of the afternoon.
The daily figure is the keeping and the testing time. When we find it, you get the repair figure before anything is touched, as always.
Four spaces in the yard, a camera on it, and no insurance from us, so take anything valuable out of the car.
