We used to take a bride as six separate slots. It went wrong twice and we changed it.
For the first two years a bridal booking here was six appointments in the diary: a trial, a facial, henna on the hands, henna on the feet, hair on the morning and face on the morning. Two of them were on the same day as other customers.
It went wrong twice, both times in the same way. A wedding shifted by a day, the six appointments had to move independently, and on the second occasion one of them could not, because the henna afternoon had been given to somebody else in between. We had a bride on the phone two weeks before her wedding and nothing useful to say to her.
So now a bride is a block of days. You pick the henna day and the wedding day on the form and the room is held across the whole range. Nothing else goes in the diary for the wedding morning at all, and if the date moves, one thing moves rather than six.
It costs us appointments. A Thursday held for a bride is a Thursday that could have had eight threading customers in it, and the price says so. It also means that in four years nobody has been told on the phone that we cannot fit their wedding in after all, and that is worth more than the eight customers.
