English for hospitality staff
Eight weeks in blocks that fit a rotation, taught here rather than at the property.
Ask for a booking
Send us a request and we will confirm it. Nothing is paid online.
What it costs
1,900.00 Per person
The fee is paid by bank transfer to the account in the confirmation email, or in cash at the office in the afternoon. A receipt carrying your enrolment reference comes back once it has arrived, and the place is held for seven days from the confirmation.
The exam preparation course may be paid in two halves, the second before week five. Hospitality courses paid for by a resort are invoiced to the resort, monthly, against an attendance sheet the office sends with the invoice, and no staff member is ever asked for money at the door.
The placement and needs interview is free. Speaking practice hours are paid singly at the office or in blocks of five, and a block is cheaper and does not expire.
Six hours a week for eight weeks, in a group of eighteen, for people working front desk, housekeeping, restaurant and boats. It is taught at the institute and not at a property, for a reason we learned the hard way: a class in a staff canteen loses half the room to an operational emergency every single session.
The language is the language of the job. Taking and repeating a booking back correctly, the twelve sentences a housekeeper needs and the four a guest will say back, describing a dish and its ingredients without guessing, the vocabulary of a complaint, handing over at the end of a shift, and the difference between what sounds polite in Dhivehi and what sounds polite in English, which is not the same thing and costs staff more than their grammar ever does.
Rotation is the whole problem and we build around it. Each of the eight weeks is offered on three different days, and a staff member attends whichever of the three falls on a day off. A student who misses a week can pick it up in the next intake's matching week at no charge, which is an administrative nuisance for us and the only way anybody on a rotation finishes a course.
For a resort, the course is invoiced monthly against an attendance sheet. The resort sees hours attended. It does not see anybody's written work or assessment marks, and every staff member is told that at enrolment with their manager present.
