What it costs
1,500.00 Per person
The fee is paid by bank transfer to the account in the confirmation email, or in cash at the office in the afternoon. A receipt carrying your enrolment reference comes back once it has arrived, and the place is held for seven days from the confirmation.
The exam preparation course may be paid in two halves, the second before week five. Hospitality courses paid for by a resort are invoiced to the resort, monthly, against an attendance sheet the office sends with the invoice, and no staff member is ever asked for money at the door.
The placement and needs interview is free. Speaking practice hours are paid singly at the office or in blocks of five, and a block is cheaper and does not expire.
Four hours a week for eight weeks, fourteen to a class, and deliberately narrow. This is not a Russian course; it is the Russian a front desk, a dive base and a restaurant floor use with guests, and everything outside that was cut out to make eight weeks enough.
What is in it: greetings and numbers, the alphabet well enough to read a name off a passport and a card, checking somebody in, room and meal questions, times and directions, the sentences a parent asks about children, the ones a guest asks when they are unwell, and how to say clearly that you will fetch somebody who speaks more Russian. That last one is a real lesson and staff say it is the most useful hour of the course.
Pronunciation is most of the work and most of the first fortnight. A sentence built correctly and said unrecognisably has not been said, and we would rather a student left with forty sentences a guest understands than a hundred a guest does not.
No reading of long text, no writing beyond names and numbers, no grammar taught for its own sake. Anybody who wants the language properly should say so at the interview and we will tell them honestly that this course is not it.
