The jetty is small and everything that arrives here uses it, so the arrangement is about sequence rather than space.
The outer face is for the scheduled ferry and the speedboat transfers, and is kept clear fifteen minutes before and after every scheduled arrival. Times are on the board at the visitor desk.
The inner face is for loading cargo, and the corner nearest the ramp is kept permanently clear for the ambulance boat. That corner has never been let to anybody and never will be.
Excursion and dive boats use the eight moorings laid off the north side rather than the jetty itself, and come alongside only to pick up and set down. A mooring is two hundred rufiyaa a month for a boat registered to this island and four hundred for one that is not, paid at the council office. Six of the eight are taken and the list is at the counter.
A guesthouse bringing a boat alongside for guests should do it in the ten minutes before departure rather than leaving it there for an hour. Three of the fourteen guesthouses used to leave boats on the inner face all morning and the ferry had nowhere to unload. That is what the moorings were laid for.
Loading hours are six in the morning until nine at night. The visitor desk at the jetty is open every day from eight until six, Friday included.
