The jetty has one outer face, one inner face and a corner. For three seasons it also had up to six excursion boats on it at nine in the morning, and the ferry was unloading passengers over the bow of somebody's dive dhoni.
The council laid eight moorings off the north side, in four metres of water, close enough that a tender run takes two minutes. Boats now come alongside to pick up and set down and go back to the mooring.
A mooring is two hundred rufiyaa a month for a boat registered here and four hundred for one that is not. Six of the eight are taken. The difference in price was deliberate and was objected to by two operators who bring boats from a neighbouring island, and the council's answer at the meeting was that an island mooring should cost an island boat less. That was carried.
The corner nearest the ramp was made permanently clear for the ambulance boat at the same time, marked, and it has stayed clear. Before the moorings there were two occasions in one year when the ambulance boat had to wait, and that is the whole reason this project was brought forward a year.
