The figure you see is what the job costs when the phone is what we expect it to be. It is an estimate until the back is off and somebody has looked inside, and that is the honest way to put it: a screen that was dropped twice often has a frame behind it that is no longer flat, and nobody can see that from the outside.
So the order is always the same. We open it, we look, and then we ring you with the real figure before any part is fitted. If the real figure is more than you want to spend, we put it back together, charge you the bench fee only, and you take the phone away.
Payment is at the counter when you collect, in cash or by transfer. Your receipt carries the same job number as your booking.
Thirty minutes and a written answer. This is the booking to make when you do not know what is wrong, and it is the booking we will move you to if you have guessed.
We open it, look at the board, test what can be tested, and write on a sheet what we found, what it would cost to put right, and whether we think it is worth putting right. You keep the sheet. Some of them say do not spend money on this phone, and we would rather hand you that sheet than a repair.
The bench fee is the whole of what you pay if you decide to go no further. If you go ahead with a repair here within a fortnight, the bench fee comes off the repair, so the looking is never charged twice.
A phone that has been in the sea is a different job and we do not do it here; there is a workshop in Malé with a microscope and we will give you the name.
