The figure you see is what the job costs when the phone is what we expect it to be. It is an estimate until the back is off and somebody has looked inside, and that is the honest way to put it: a screen that was dropped twice often has a frame behind it that is no longer flat, and nobody can see that from the outside.

So the order is always the same. We open it, we look, and then we ring you with the real figure before any part is fitted. If the real figure is more than you want to spend, we put it back together, charge you the bench fee only, and you take the phone away.

Payment is at the counter when you collect, in cash or by transfer. Your receipt carries the same job number as your booking.

Some jobs cannot be finished in an hour and there is no point pretending. A board that needs cleaning and drying, a part that lands on tomorrow's flight, a phone that has to be watched on charge for a day: all of those need a shelf rather than a bench.

So you book the shelf. Tell us how many days you can be without the phone, and the phone goes into a numbered box with your job number on the lid. The number on the box is the number on your booking and the number on the page you were sent, and that is the whole filing system here.

The daily figure is the holding and handling, not the repair. The repair is quoted separately once we have looked, and you are rung with the figure before anything is fitted.

We have eight boxes. When all eight are full the form will say so rather than take your phone and stand it on a desk.
