Four boards and a diary, in 2015
Opposite the harbour, open every day from six.
Why we count the stock
For the first four years the hire was a diary with pencil in it, and twice a season somebody walked down at seven in the morning for a board that had gone out an hour earlier. There is no good way to apologise for that to somebody with two days on the island.
So every board, set, suit and pair of fins is a number now, and a request takes it off the shelf the moment it arrives rather than when one of us reads the message. That is why this site sometimes tells you no. A shop that never says no is a shop that is guessing.
The rest of it has not changed. Hussain still fits the boards himself and still patches the dings in the yard behind the shop.
What we will not do
Hand you a board that is wrong for you
We will argue about it at the counter and we will usually win, and you will catch more waves.
Keep a deposit we should not
It comes back when the gear does. Ten years of passport copies has cost us two masks and one pump.
The three of us
Hussain Latheef
Opened the shop in 2015 with four boards and a diary. Still does the board fittings and still mends the dings in the yard.
Mariyam Sajidha
Runs the stock list and the deliveries. Knows where every board on the island is at any hour of the day.
Ali Shifau
Patches boards, drops gear at guesthouses before seven, and will tell you the wind is wrong for the far reef today.
