RI Rihiveli School Preschool to grade twelve, five hundred and forty children, and a place for every one of them

Grades six to eight

Six classes, subject teachers, and the change that is hardest for a child with a plan.

From grade six the day becomes eight subject teachers instead of one class teacher, and for most children that is exciting and manageable.

For a child with a plan it is the point at which arrangements most often fall apart, in any school, because eight adults now share what one used to hold. Being an all through school is what lets us handle it. The plan moves with the child, every one of those eight teachers has read it, the same support assistant follows the child from grade five into grade six, and the coordinator sits in on lessons in the first half term to see what is actually happening rather than what the plan says.

For everybody, the form teacher is the point of contact and sees the class every morning. Subject teachers write to the form teacher every fortnight about anybody they are worried about, and the form teacher telephones home in that week.

Subjects: Dhivehi, English, mathematics, science, Islam, social studies, information technology, and the practical, art and physical periods.

Grade eight ends with the stream choice for grades nine and ten, and there is a written note home in the second term, a parents' meeting, and a conversation with the form teacher offered to every family rather than only to those who ask.
