FE Fenmaa Foundation Reading corners in island schools, collection drives, and clean up mornings in the lagoon

Volunteering, and the briefing that comes first

An hour before a first island trip, and the photograph rule explained properly.

Store Saturdays and clean up mornings need no briefing: reserve a place and turn up. An island trip needs the hour first, in a group of ten or fewer, with the coordinator.

The hour covers how a visit is arranged and with whom, who you answer to on the day, what to bring, and twenty minutes on what to do when a family on the island asks you for something the foundation cannot give. That is the situation new volunteers handle worst and it is the reason the briefing exists.

No photographs of children, on any trip, on your own phone or for us. It is gone through properly at the briefing and a first breach ends somebody's involvement with the foundation. Nobody has ever said afterwards that they had not understood it.

We do not pay volunteers or reimburse expenses. We will confirm in writing which days somebody attended and how many hours, with a reference on it, and we will not describe volunteering as employment in any letter.
