Three streams, chosen at the end of grade eight. Science, with physics, chemistry and biology as separate subjects and additional mathematics. Commerce, with business studies, accounting and economics. General, with geography, a second language and the practical subjects carried further. All three take Dhivehi, English, mathematics and Islam.
A school this size can run all three properly, with four laboratories and specialist teachers in every subject, which is the strongest argument for being here.
How the stream is decided. A written note home in grade eight, a parents' meeting, then a conversation with the form teacher for every family that asks and for every family whose child is borderline. Grade eight marks are part of it and they are not the whole of it.
The school will not place a child in the science stream on marks alone when the child does not want it, and it will not place a child in a stream the marks plainly do not support, because two years of failing is a worse outcome than a different stream. Where those two things conflict with what a family wants, we say so in the meeting with the paper in front of us.
Grade ten runs four full practice examinations across the year, in the hall, timed and silent, marked to the real schemes and returned with a breakdown by topic rather than a total. Timetables for every examination in every grade go up three weeks ahead, on this site, on the boards in both sessions and on paper.
