KU Kurimagu Events Weddings, conferences and openings, run by people who carry their own stage
About us

We started with one speaker stack and a hired van

Nine years later the kit is ours, the crew is ours, and the schedule still gets printed.

Why we bought the equipment

Kurimagu was two people with one speaker stack in 2017, hiring in everything else. The night that changed it was a wedding on Hulhumale where the lighting we had hired arrived four hours late, and we spent the afternoon of somebody's wedding on the telephone instead of on the floor.

Owning the kit is expensive and it is the whole business. It means we know what is in the store, we know when it was last serviced, and when a desk fails at nine o'clock there is a second one in the van rather than a conversation about whose fault it is.

We run about sixty events a year, more than half of them weddings, and we turn down work in the weeks we cannot crew properly. A calendar with nothing in it for the second Friday in April is a decision, not a gap.

On the day

How the day itself works

What happens if it rains?

Every outdoor event is quoted with a wet option and a decision time, usually four hours before doors. At that hour we ring you, we both look at the same forecast, and somebody makes the call.

The important part is that it is agreed in advance. A conversation about rain at five o'clock with no plan is how an evening gets lost.

Will your crew be visible during the event?

Barely. We finish building two hours before guests arrive, the crew changes into black, and after that nothing of ours is carried through a room with guests in it.

There will be two people on the desk and an operator at the sound position all evening, and you will be given a number that is answered on the first ring.
