Four hours a week for eight weeks, fourteen to a class, and deliberately narrow. The Russian a front desk, a dive base and a restaurant floor use with guests, and nothing else, because cutting everything else out is what makes eight weeks enough.
Greetings and numbers, enough of the alphabet to read a name off a passport, checking somebody in, room and meal questions, times and directions, what a parent asks about children, what a guest says when they are unwell, and how to say plainly that you will fetch somebody who speaks more Russian.
Pronunciation is most of the first fortnight. Forty sentences a guest understands beats a hundred a guest does not, and anybody wanting the language properly should say so at the interview so we can tell them this is not that course.
