A wedding of about four hundred people, and a family who wanted every guest to leave with something small rather than a favour that would be thrown away.
They came in with a scent they already loved and asked for a hundred and twenty bottles of it. We suggested they smell four others first, on skin, with the two mothers present, because a scent chosen alone at nine at night is not always the same choice made in daylight with company. They changed their mind on the second visit.
What was chosen was a light rose and sandalwood attar, which is easy for a wide range of people to wear. That mattered more than making a bold choice, because a hundred and twenty people include everybody.
Filled by hand over four evenings, labelled with the two names and the date, and boxed in tens for the hall. The family collected them on the morning of the wedding and paid the balance by transfer the week before.
