RE Reethi Kiru Inn A small guesthouse on Thoddoo, two minutes from the beach

Three of us, eight rooms, one island

Open since 2016, two houses along from where the owner grew up.

Why we built it

Guesthouses were only just allowed on inhabited islands when we started, and Thoddoo had almost nowhere to stay. People came off the ferry, looked around, and went back.

So we built eight rooms next to the family house, with a roof you could have breakfast on. We did not want it to feel like a small resort, because there are better resorts than we could ever build and none of them can show you a watermelon field at five in the afternoon.

It is still the three of us. Ibrahim carries the bags, Shifa answers the email and runs the kitchen, and Hassan takes the boat out.
