From March every household separates into three. This is the whole scheme on one page.
Green bag, food waste only. Collected every morning except Friday, from six. This is the bag that smells, which is why it goes daily and why it must be tied.
Blue bag, bottles, tins, cans and clean plastic. Collected Sunday and Wednesday. Rinsed, please. A blue bag with a curry tin in it is a general waste bag as far as the centre is concerned.
Grey bag, everything else. Collected Monday and Thursday.
Not on any round: building rubble, furniture, mattresses, tyres, batteries, engine oil and garden waste. Rubble and furniture are a tractor job booked through the office at two hundred rufiyaa a load. Garden waste goes on the Saturday round, which is free and has to be booked by Thursday. Oil and batteries are taken at the waste centre gate and nowhere else.
The household fee is one hundred rufiyaa a month, which replaces the sixty rufiyaa fee and the separate tractor charges most households were paying anyway. A household that cannot pay should come and say so to the secretary general.
A bag that is obviously mixed is left on the road with a sticker on it. This is unpopular and it is the only thing that has worked anywhere.
