Nine years on Majeedhee Magu
Faru Hardware opened in 2016, on the ground floor of the Fiyaathoshi Building, with one counter and a van.
We buy for contractors, guesthouses and island councils, which means three very different sorts of customer and one shared problem: materials that arrive when they were promised. Everything about how we work comes back to that. We hold stock rather than order it in. We plan island loads around the boat rather than around the order. We price off drawings so nobody finds out on site that a line was missed.
The yard in Hulhumalé came in 2019 and is where the bulk goods and the steel cutting live. The counter in Malé is still where most of the work gets decided.

Questions we hear every week
How quickly can you deliver in Malé?
An order placed before noon usually leaves the same afternoon, and anything placed later goes out the next morning.
Large loads that need a lorry are booked a day ahead, because the lorry is shared and Malé traffic decides the rest.
Do I need an account to buy from you?
No. Anybody can buy at the counter and pay by card, cash or transfer. An account only matters if you would rather have one invoice at the end of the month than a receipt for every trip.
Can you price a job from my drawing?
Yes. Send the drawing or the bill of quantities and we will come back with an itemised quotation, usually within two working days. Quotations hold for fourteen days and we will tell you which items are likely to move.
How do you get materials to an island?
We load to the scheduled cargo boats from the Malé harbour and the Hulhumalé jetty. Tell us the island and the week, and we will tell you which boat it goes on and what loading costs.
Small orders are consolidated with other customers going the same way, so you are not paying for a whole trip.
Will cement survive the trip in the wet season?
It does if it is wrapped for it. We double wrap bagged cement for island loads and crate anything breakable. It costs a little more per pallet and it is far cheaper than a load nobody can use.
What payment do you take?
Cash, card and bank transfer at the counter. Trade accounts are settled monthly by transfer. We will email the invoice the same day if you ask for it.
