Questions we are asked often
How do I get to Fuvahmulah
There are flights most days from Malé and they take a little under an hour and a half. The island has its own airport and we are six minutes from it.
There is also the boat from the south, which takes a few hours and runs when the sea allows. Send us your dates before you buy anything and we will tell you what is genuinely running that week.
What happens if my flight is cancelled
We keep nothing. Not the night, not a fee, not part of it. Write or send us a message whenever you find out, at any hour.
It happens often enough here that any other policy would simply be a way of charging people for the weather. If you are stuck on the island instead of leaving it, tell us and we will find you a bed even when the board says full.
Can you meet a late arrival
Yes, at any hour, and there is no charge for it.
The last flight lands when most of this street is asleep. Somebody is on call, the transfer is free, and you will walk into a room that is open rather than stand outside a locked door looking for a phone number.
Can I swim at the beach
Sometimes, and not everywhere. This is one island on its own in the open ocean with no lagoon around it, so the water at Thoondu can be flat on a Tuesday and unswimmable on the Wednesday.
Ask at reception on the day. Somebody who grew up here will tell you where the water is safe that morning and where it is not, and will tell you plainly when the answer is nowhere. Please do not swim alone.
What should I wear
Shoulders and knees covered anywhere off our own property. This is an inhabited island and people live their ordinary lives here.
Nobody will be rude to you about it and nobody is trying to catch you out. If you are heading to the water, put something over your swimming things for the walk and take it off at the beach.
Is alcohol available
No. It is not sold or served anywhere on this island, including here, and it cannot be brought in from the airport shop either.
If an evening drink matters to your trip then a resort or a liveaboard is the honest answer, and we would rather say so now than have you find out on the first night.
