Questions we are asked often
How do your scheduled runs work?
Four circuits, thirty one trips a week, each leaving at a published hour and calling at its islands in a published order.
Because the drop order is fixed, you know roughly what time your island gets the boat. Third on a circuit is about ninety minutes after departure, every time.
Will you wait for my load if I am late?
No, and it is the only rule we are inflexible about.
A run that waits for the last customer is a run nobody can plan around, and the eleven customers who were ready end up paying for the one who was not. We will put you on the next trip and we will tell you at the time.
Can I get something delivered today, off the schedule?
Usually. We keep one launch uncommitted during the day and we quote the trip as one figure, with the fuel and the crew in it, before we leave the jetty.
We will also tell you when it is not worth it. If the item is on tomorrow's six o clock circuit anyway, a launch tonight buys you eleven hours for several hundred rufiyaa.
What happens to my cargo at the other end?
It is handed to a named person and signed for, and we photograph the handover.
We do not leave cargo on a quay, ever, and we will bring it back rather than leave it with somebody who is not on the note. Tell us who is receiving it when you book.
How do you keep chilled goods cold?
Insulated boxes with frozen gel, packed full, plus two insulated hulls for frozen work with the load pre chilled rather than cooled on the way.
A half empty cool box warms several times faster than a full one, so we size the box to the load rather than using whatever is nearest.
Can I see what temperature my load reached?
Yes. Every chilled and frozen consignment travels with a logger and you get the record with the delivery note.
Medicine runs at two to eight degrees and frozen product at minus eighteen. Where a load has been out of range we tell you on the day, with the graph, rather than letting somebody find out later.
