FA Faalhu Chambers Advocates in Male for companies, employers and families
About the chambers

A small practice, deliberately

Three advocates and a clerk. Every matter is done by somebody you have met.

Thirteen years on Sosun Magu

The chambers opened in 2013 with one advocate, one clerk and a room above a printer. We do the same work now that we did then, for rather more people.

We stayed small because of what happens when a practice grows quickly: the person who takes the meeting hands the file to somebody the client never meets, and the second letter reads as though the first one was never sent. Three advocates is the number at which everybody in the building knows every matter in it.

We appear before the Civil Court, the Employment Tribunal and the Family Court, and we do a good deal of work that never reaches any of them. A client who can show us a letter before they send it is a client we can usually keep out of a hearing altogether.

Costs

What we charge and when we ask for it

How do you charge?

By the hour for advice and by a fixed fee for anything we can define, which is most company, property and contract work.

Every matter starts with a written fee note saying what the figure covers and what would make it go up. If a matter is going to cost more than the note says, you hear it from us before the work is done, not on the invoice.

Do you take cases on a share of what is recovered?

No. For debt recovery we charge per letter and per filing, which means a small debt is still worth chasing, and you keep everything that comes in.
