Four doctors, one treatment room, one corridor
Open since 2022 on Bageecha Magu in Phase Two.
Why a small clinic with booked times
The clinic was opened by a doctor who had spent nine years in atoll practice, where the waiting room is the whole building and everybody sits in it together until their name is called.
That works when there is no alternative. In Hulhumalé there is one, and it is simply appointments: a booked time, a named doctor, ten minutes early, twenty minutes in the building. A family with a sick child does not spend two hours sitting next to everybody else who is unwell.
What we did not do is put every hour on the booking form. Four slots a day are held back for the same day, given out by reception rather than by a form, because a person can hear how somebody sounds on the telephone. On a quiet Tuesday some of them go unused and that is the price of having room for the person who woke up feeling wrong.
What we hold to
The same doctor, when you want one
A second appointment starts from what the first one found.
Results explained by a person
A doctor rings you. Nobody is sent a sheet of numbers to work out alone.
No advice by telephone
From anybody here, including the doctors. Reception can only say what is free.
