A resort maintenance team running twenty two electric and petrol buggies, servicing them whenever somebody noticed, and ordering parts in a panic four times a year.
We spent a morning on the island with their chief mechanic writing down what was actually on the fleet. Twenty two buggies turned out to be three types, and two of those shared filters and plugs.
Out of that came one service kit per type, an interval measured in running hours rather than months, and a standing quarterly box that goes out on the resort's own supply boat. Brake parts and belts are stocked two deep on the island because a buggy off the road on a changeover day is a real problem.
They have not made a panic order in fourteen months, and the quarterly box has been adjusted twice, both times downwards.
