Getting a machine to an island, and finding one that is not on our floor.
Delivery to an island is quoted per machine and per route, typically 900 to 2,600 rufiyaa depending on the distance and the boat. We crate bikes rather than strapping them to a deck, because an uncrated machine on an open deck in a wet crossing arrives with salt water in places it will never leave.
How it works: tell us the island and the week. We will tell you which cargo boat it goes on, what loading costs, and when it will realistically arrive, which is not the same as the sailing date. We handle the manifest and the loading note, drain the fuel to the level the boat requires, disconnect the battery, and tape the exposed contacts. On arrival the crate opens with a rinse and a tool kit and a sheet telling whoever receives it what to check.
We deliver two or more machines to the same island as one consignment wherever the timing allows, which is most of the saving on a fleet order, and we will hold a bike for a fortnight for free while a customer waits for another to join it.
Buying to order is the other half of this. If you want a specific machine we do not stock, we will bring it in, and the honest part of that conversation is the timing: eight to fourteen weeks from a firm order, sometimes longer, and we will not promise a date the shipping does not allow. We quote one price with the duty, the clearing and the registration work inside it, and we ask for a deposit of a quarter which is refundable until the order is placed and not after, which is stated in writing rather than mentioned.
What we will not do is bring in something we cannot get parts for. A machine nobody on this island can service is a two year vehicle, whatever it cost.
