A resort group asked us to make a signature scent and supply six hundred small bottles a month as a room amenity.
It was more money than the studio makes in a year. We spent a morning on it and said no by the afternoon.
Six hundred a month is not a batch of forty made carefully. It is a production line, a second bench, staff, a bulk material contract and an inability to change anything, and at the end of it we would have been a contract filler with a hobby attached.
We offered instead to develop the formula and hand it over, with the material list, so they could have it produced properly by a company that does that work. They were not interested, which was fair. We are glad we said no and we would say no again, and it is worth writing down because the next such offer will be tempting too.
