MDF in 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 18mm and 25mm, melamine faced chipboard and MDF in fourteen colours, and blockboard in 18mm and 25mm.
Plain MDF is 480 rufiyaa in 18mm. Melamine faced board is 720 in white and 780 in the wood finishes. Blockboard is 690 in 18mm.
Each of these has one job. MDF machines beautifully, takes a spray finish better than anything else and is the right choice for a painted door or a moulded panel. It is also the wrong choice anywhere it might get wet: MDF swells irreversibly and a swollen edge cannot be sanded back, which is why an MDF bathroom cabinet is a mistake however well it is painted. Melamine faced board is the workhorse of every wardrobe carcass in this country, because it needs no finishing and it is dimensionally stable. Blockboard has a core of timber strips, so it holds a screw at an edge and does not sag over a span, which is why interior doors and long shelves are made from it.
We keep the melamine colours on file with their codes so a repair or an extension in three years matches, which is the commonest reason somebody rings us about a job we supplied in 2021.
