What it costs
700.00 Per person
The fee for a programme is paid by bank transfer to the account named in the confirmation email, or in cash at the office on a weekday morning. A receipt carrying your enrolment reference is emailed once the money has arrived, and that reference is what the office asks for on the phone.
A programme may be paid in three parts across its sixteen weeks if that suits a household better. Ask the office when you enrol rather than after the first payment is late, because the second arrangement is easier to make than the first is to undo.
The recitation check for a new student is free. There is nothing to send and nothing to bring.
Donations are separate from fees and reach the academy the same way: a transfer to the account on the donations page, and a receipt back from the office with a reference on it. Nothing is collected on this website and nobody here takes a donation in a message.
Ninety minutes on two evenings a week for sixteen weeks, after the evening prayer, in a group of sixteen. It exists because the men who asked for it were fishing, teaching or working in the harbour all day and every other programme on the island ran at ten in the morning.
How an evening goes: each student recites what they prepared since the last session while the teacher listens and marks it on their page, then the group works together on what is coming next, and the last twenty minutes are the teacher going over the passages most of the room found hard. It is unhurried on purpose. A student reciting under pressure to finish makes mistakes that then have to be unlearned, which costs more time than it saved.
What is prepared between sessions is yours to do, and how much you take on is agreed with the teacher rather than set by us. Two students in the same group can be moving at quite different speeds and both be doing well, which is why nothing here is called a class year or a grade.
There is no completion date. We will not print one and we will not agree to one, because the pace belongs to the student and any date on this page would be a sales line. What you get instead is a page in the teacher's book with every passage you have recited and accepted on it, and you may ask for it whenever you like.
