What it costs

⃂ 600.00 Per person

Nothing is paid on this website. You send the request, the office rings you within a day, and the place is held until the first session of the intake.

The fee for a programme is paid by bank transfer to the account named in the confirmation email, or in cash at the office on a weekday morning. A receipt carrying your enrolment reference is emailed once the money has arrived, and that reference is what the office asks for on the phone.

A programme may be paid in three parts across its sixteen weeks if that suits a household better. Ask the office when you enrol rather than after the first payment is late, because the second arrangement is easier to make than the first is to undo.

The recitation check for a new student is free. There is nothing to send and nothing to bring.

Donations are separate from fees and reach the academy the same way: a transfer to the account on the donations page, and a receipt back from the office with a reference on it. Nothing is collected on this website and nobody here takes a donation in a message.

Two and a half hours on three weekday mornings for sixteen weeks, in a group of eighteen, taught by women and with no men in the building during those hours except the caretaker, who is told when the mornings run.

The morning is in three parts. The first is recitation, each student heard in turn. The second is reading and the rules of recitation, worked through together at a pace the room sets. The third is memorisation for those who are doing it, and quiet reading for those who are not, because about a third of the group came to read well rather than to memorise and there is no reason to make them choose.

Mornings were chosen after two years of trying afternoons. Children come home, and a programme that collides with that is a programme women stop attending in week five while feeling bad about it. Three mornings between eight and half past ten works, and the attendance across sixteen weeks says so.

Children under school age may come with their mother and sit at the back. There is a mat, there are three teachers, and nobody has ever complained about a child in the room. What we do not have is anybody to look after them, so a child who needs watching needs their mother to be watching.
