One machine and a shed, in 2018
Now five instructors, two jet skis, a parasail boat and a wakeboard boat.
Why a session carries a name
The usual arrangement on a beach is that you pay at a hut, put on a jacket and wait until somebody is free. It works until it is busy, and when it is busy you spend your afternoon standing in the sun.
So we built the board around people instead of machines. Every slot on this website has one of our five names behind it, and when all five are out the board says so rather than taking your money and making you queue.
It costs us bookings on a Saturday and we have kept it anyway, because the alternative is a beach full of people who paid and are annoyed.
Two things we will not move on
The briefing
Fifteen minutes on the sand before every session, for everybody, however many times you have done it elsewhere.
The life jacket
On the water it is on, including strong swimmers, and the instructor decides when a session stops.
Three of the five
Ashraf Moosa
Started with one machine and a shed in 2018. Still does the first briefing of the day himself.
Hawwa Leena
Teaches the snorkel sessions. Has got more nervous adults to put their face in the water than the rest of us together.
Rilwan Saeed
Flies the canopy and reads the wind. Calls off more mornings than anybody, which is exactly why he does it.
