Four rooms, four therapists, one staircase
Open since 2019 on Nirolhu Magu, above the bakery.
Why a spa above a bakery
Eleven years of resort spas taught the owner two things. The first is how to give a good massage. The second is that the best part of most resort spas is the room, and a room is not hard to build.
So this is four rooms above a bakery in Hulhumalé, at a third of the resort price, with the same oil and the same hour. The bakery is not a drawback. It smells of bread from six in the morning and the landlord fixes things the same day.
What we spent the money on instead was the plumbing. Every room has its own shower, and the gents room has its own door off the stairwell, which cost us the storeroom and is the reason a lot of people come in at all.
How the place is run
Appointments, not queues
Four rooms and four therapists, so an hour booked is an hour held.
Nobody is moved
A therapist who treats women does not cover a gents appointment on a busy Friday.
Products named out loud
The bottles stay in the room and you can read every one of them.
The four of us and Nisa on the desk
Aishath Reesha
Trained in Colombo, worked eleven years in resort spas, and opened this one to stop commuting by boat. Still takes appointments four days a...
Shanoona Ibrahim
Nine years on the table. Does the ninety minute massage and most of the retreat days, and is the one people ask for by name.
Yoosuf Adam
Runs the gents room at the back. Sports massage and a lot of shoulders belonging to men who sit at a desk all day.
Fathimath Nisa
Answers the phone, the messages and the door, and is the person who decides whether a walk in can actually be fitted in.
