Rebuilding a blend after a material stopped coming

A supplier stopped, a card became unfillable, and the honest answer was to say so before blending anything.

One of the vetivers we had used since about 2015 stopped arriving. Three customers had it in their blends and one of them had been wearing hers for nine years.

We telephoned all three before anybody placed an order, rather than quietly substituting. Quietly substituting is what a shop does when it is more worried about the sale than the customer, and it is found out immediately by anybody who actually wears the thing.

Two accepted the nearest alternative after smelling both side by side. The third did not like it, so we spent an afternoon rebuilding around a different accent entirely and gave her the afternoon for nothing, because the change was not her doing.

All three got new card numbers, and the old cards are marked with the reason. That note is why nobody in ten years will be puzzled by two nearly identical cards under one name.
