Questions we are asked often

How do you price a kitchen or a wardrobe?

By the running foot, so quotations can be compared honestly. A kitchen from 3,800 rufiyaa a foot with laminate faced doors and from 5,600 sprayed. A wardrobe from 1,450 in melamine, 2,200 with laminate faced doors and 3,100 sprayed. Worktops are quoted separately.

Ask anybody quoting you what is inside that figure: the carcass thickness, whether the back is housed or pinned, and whether soft close hardware is included or an extra.

Why will you not measure from my drawing?

Because a finished floor is never where the drawing said it would be, and a kitchen made fifteen millimetres too low under its own worktop cannot be fixed.

We measure after the floor tiles are down and the wall tiling is at least set out. It delays jobs and it is the one thing we do not compromise on.

Do you charge for the survey?

900 rufiyaa for a measured survey and a drawing with the real dimensions on it, and it comes off the price if you order.

The drawing is yours either way. Several people have taken it to another workshop, which is their right.

How long does the work take?

Three weeks for a wardrobe, four for a bathroom vanity, six for a kitchen, and two weeks for a set of doors. That is from the approved drawing, not from the first conversation.

Anybody promising a fitted kitchen in three weeks is either not spraying anything or not letting the finish cure. Two of our six weeks are finishing.

What do you build things from?

Carcasses in eighteen millimetre melamine faced board. Doors in laminate faced MDF or sprayed MDF, or solid timber where the design asks for it. Anything in a wet area in marine plywood.

We will not build a bathroom or sink unit in MDF at any price. MDF swells irreversibly the first time water sits on an edge and the part then has to be remade rather than repaired.

Will a tall wardrobe fit up my stairs?

Probably not in one piece, and that is fine. A two point four metre carcass will not turn on most Malé landings, so we build in two or three sections with the joins hidden inside and assemble in the room.

We measure the stairwell at the survey. The tightest turn on the way up decides the largest piece we make.
