The fee shown is for the appointment: the time in the chair and the dentist looking at your teeth and telling you what they see. It is not payment for a treatment and it does not commit you to one.

Anything the dentist suggests is written down and priced before it is started, on paper you keep, and you are free to say no to all of it and pay only for the appointment. Payment is at reception when you leave, in cash or by card. If you hold dental insurance, bring the card to reception before the appointment rather than after it.

Forty five minutes in a chair for a filling that has already been looked at, written down and priced at an earlier appointment.

Book this one when you have the sheet from your check up in your hand. If you have not been seen yet, book the check up instead: a dentist cannot sensibly agree to fill a tooth they have not looked at, and an appointment that starts with a look often ends up being about a different tooth.

The figure on the form is the appointment fee for a single straightforward filling. If the tooth turns out to need more than was expected, the dentist stops, explains it, and gives you the new figure. Nothing further is done in that appointment without you saying yes to it.
