A scalp that spends nine hours a day warm and damp under a scarf behaves differently from one that does not, and most of the advice printed on a bottle was not written with that in mind.
The usual complaints are itching, flaking, a smell by the afternoon, and hair that feels oily at the roots and dry at the ends on the same day. That last combination is not two problems. It is one.
What generally helps: washing more often rather than less, with something mild enough to allow it. Drying the scalp properly before covering it, which matters more than anything in a bottle. Keeping oil off the scalp and on the ends where it belongs. And loosening the tie at the nape, because the breakage ring that so many people have at the back of the head is friction, not weakness.
What we will not do is diagnose anything. Persistent flaking, soreness, sudden shedding or bald patches belong with a doctor, and we say so several times a week rather than selling a bottle to somebody who needs an appointment.
