The office keeps the island's own register of households and residents, and issues the letters that are drawn from it.
The common ones: a letter confirming your address, a letter confirming who lives in a household, a certified copy of an entry in the council's register, and a letter of introduction for an application somewhere else.
Bring your identity document. A letter for somebody else needs a signed note from them, which we keep with the request. Twenty five rufiyaa a letter, thirty five for a certified copy, and nothing at all where the school or the health centre has asked for it.
A letter from a file that is here is done while you wait if you come before noon. Anything needing a record from another office takes as long as that office takes, and the counter will tell you which office and give you the reference.
One thing the office cannot do: issue or replace a national identity document, or anything else that belongs to a national registry. People are sent here for that regularly and it is not ours. We will tell you exactly where to go rather than taking your paperwork and holding it.
