Land is the subject people most want a straight answer about and the one where a council must be most careful.
What this office holds is a record: allocations, dates, names, measurements and what has been built. It goes back to the nineteen seventies for most of the island and it is often the oldest paper in existence about a particular plot. Anybody may come and read what it says about their own plot.
What this office does not do, and will not: decide who owns a piece of land, settle a boundary between two families, reverse an old allocation, or put an opinion about ownership in writing. Those decisions belong to the office that holds that authority. Nothing on this website or said at this counter is a ruling.
What the council does with an application is take it, check the paperwork is complete, attach what the register shows, forward it with a covering letter and chase it on the first Sunday of every month, recording the reply or the silence in your file.
Come in first without the form. A twenty minute conversation with the register open has stopped several people applying for the wrong thing entirely.
