Nothing in this yard is any use to you until it is standing on your plot, and on an island job that is most of the cost and all of the risk.
We book the barge, we load and chain the machine ourselves, and we send somebody with it. The quotation names the barge operator, the loading day and the return day as separate lines so you can see what the freight is rather than having it buried in a day rate.
The part that catches people is the harbour ramp. Several island ramps will not take a thirteen tonne machine off a barge at low water, and one of them will not take it at all. That is why we ask for a site visit before we quote a big machine, and why we sometimes recommend a smaller one.
