Fehivalu Guest House Fourteen rooms on Fuvahmulah, six minutes from the airport and ten from Thoondu

A week on the island when you are here to work

Rooms by the week, a desk that works, a generator schedule on the board, and dinner if you ask the night before.

A good share of our rooms go to people who are not on holiday at all: a survey team, a contractor, a teacher on transfer, somebody from an office in Malé here for a fortnight. This is written for them.

The standard double has a weekly rate that needs seven nights or more. It is a real reduction rather than a rounding, because a room let for three weeks costs us far less to turn over than a room let three times.

Every room has a desk with a socket beside it, which sounds obvious and is missing from most guest houses. The connection is the fastest available here and it is shared without throttling. When the street generator schedule is published we put it on the board at reception, so a call at a fixed hour can be planned around rather than discovered.

Eating is the part people underestimate. Places in town keep their own hours and some evenings everything is shut by nine. Tell Rugiyya at breakfast and there will be dinner cooked in the house that night, priced per head and added to the bill.

And the invoice. Tell us the office name, the address and the reference when you book, not on the morning you leave. We will raise it properly, the office can settle after the stay, and nobody has to chase anybody.
