Fourteen is the cap on an English class, twelve on Dhivehi and sixteen on Arabic conversation, and those numbers have not moved in six years. They are the reason a fee is paid in advance and the reason the evening intake usually has a list.
The fee covers sixty teaching hours, the workbook and the certificate if you qualify. It does not cover repeating the course, and a student who repeats a level pays for it again at the employer rate, which is the best we can honestly do.
Attendance is taken every session. Below eighty percent there is no certificate, and what you receive instead is a letter stating the course and the hours attended. Students find that harsh until it is explained that the certificate is only worth anything to them because we refuse to issue it that way.
