English in six levels, twelve weeks each

Sixty hours, fourteen to a class, and a marked writing hour every week.

Five hours a week for twelve weeks at one of six levels, with morning, late afternoon and evening intakes so that a shift worker and a school leaver can be on the same level in different rooms.

The levels are ours and we call them one to six. Level one begins at the alphabet and the present tense; level six is for people who can already talk and are there for accuracy, writing and the habits that stop somebody being taken seriously in an email.

Every level runs the same way: two hours on the new material, two hours using it out loud, and an hour of writing that comes back marked with corrections rather than a grade. Students try to skip the writing hour. It is the hour that changes their English.
