An hour is not vagueness. It is a promise with a cap behind it, which is why the hour sometimes disappears from the site while you are reading this.
People who order from us for the first time sometimes ask why they are choosing an hour rather than being told the food will arrive in twenty five minutes. It looks less precise. It is actually the opposite.
Here is what sits behind an hour. Each one has a cap, between eight and sixteen orders depending on how busy that part of the night is. The cap is set by how much can come off one grill and one fryer without anything waiting, plus how many stops one rider can make in sixty minutes at that hour. When the cap is reached, that hour comes off the site. Not greyed out, gone, because a slot you can see and cannot have is worse than no slot.
That is why an hour can vanish between you filling the basket and reaching the checkout on a Friday at half past ten. It has not broken. Sixteen other people got there first.
The alternative, which is what an unlimited order queue does, is that every order is accepted and the queue absorbs the overflow. Nobody is ever told no. Instead the eleven o'clock orders arrive at ten to twelve, cold, and the customer decides the kitchen is bad rather than busy.
Within your hour we aim for the first half of it, and the rider rings when he leaves. If something has gone wrong, you get a phone call. There is no map on this site showing a bike moving around Malé, and we are not going to add one: at this distance it would tell you nothing you cannot learn from a ten second phone call, and it would cost more than every other thing on this website put together.
One practical tip. If you are ordering for a group, take the hour after the one you first thought of. Cooking eleven portions and two tables of short eats in the same hour is how a kitchen falls behind, and an hour of notice makes the food noticeably better.
