Two of us, one counter, one box a week
A phone shop on the beach road that decided to say plainly what it cannot do.
The box came out of losing one phone
For the first year we sent phones to Malé with whoever was travelling. A relative on the afternoon boat, a friend with a spare seat, somebody's cousin who worked at the workshop anyway. It was quick and it was fine until the morning it was not, and then there was one phone nobody could account for and two families who had both been careful.
So there is one box now. It goes on Tuesday, it holds twelve devices, and nothing goes in it that has not been photographed, written down and bagged with a reference on the counter in front of its owner. The box is weighed and listed before it is taped. Thirty seconds each time, and the argument about a scratch has happened twice in four years and lasted about a minute both times.
The other half of this shop is the counter, and the honesty there is the same. We do screens, batteries, charging, speakers and setting up, and we do not touch board work or water damage, because doing that badly ruins a phone for everybody who comes after us.
What we hold to
Their price, unchanged
We add nothing to the workshop's repair figure and will show you their slip.
Two telephone calls
One with the figure before anything is done, one when your phone is back.
No date we cannot keep
The boat is not ours. In the monsoon we say add two days, and mean it.
