Water damage assessment
Ninety minutes. The board comes out, gets washed and goes under the lens.

What it costs
450.00 Per booking
What you are booking is time under a microscope, and that is what you pay for. The assessment fee buys somebody opening the phone, taking the board out, washing it if it needs washing, and looking at it at forty times its own size until they can tell you what has died and whether it can be brought back. You pay that fee whether the answer is good news or bad news, and we would rather say so here than at the counter.
Anything beyond the assessment is quoted after the board is under the lens and never before. A price given over the telephone for a board nobody has seen is a number somebody made up. When we have looked, you get one figure and one honest opinion about the odds, and nothing is touched until you say go ahead.
If the board turns out to be beyond us, you pay the assessment and nothing else, and you get the phone back with the board in it and a written note of what we found. That note is worth having: it is what stops you paying three more shops to find out the same thing.
Payment is at the bench when you collect, in cash or by transfer.
Ninety minutes at the microscope bench, and the appointment to book for any phone that has been in the sea, in a pool, in the rain or in a bathroom.
What happens: the phone is opened, the board comes out, every shield and connector comes off, and the board goes through an ultrasonic bath to lift the salt and the residue that is quietly eating the tracks. Then it is dried and looked at under the microscope, section by section, at forty times its own size. Salt leaves a trail and the trail is readable.
What you get at the end: a plain answer. Either this board can be brought back and here is the figure, or this board has a corroded circuit under a component we cannot lift without taking the pads with it, and it cannot. Both answers are written down.
Sea water is the worst case and the clock is the whole game. A phone brought in on the day it went in has perhaps three chances in four. The same phone brought in a fortnight later, having been charged twice to see whether it would come on, has perhaps one in five. We are not being dramatic; the difference is that large.
