Twenty minutes with a teacher before you pay for anything. You read for a few minutes and you are told which programme fits, or that neither fits yet and what to do for a few months first.
That last answer is given often, and it is the reason the check exists. An adult who joins the evening programme without the reading behind it spends sixteen weeks struggling and then blames themselves for it.
Bring the practical questions too. Which evenings, whether the fee can be spread, whether a woman is taught by a woman, and how somebody coming in by ferry manages the timetable. Those get better answers face to face than by message.
