The programme exists because the men who asked for it were at sea, in a classroom or in the harbour all day, and everything else on the island ran in the morning. Ninety minutes, twice a week, after the evening prayer.
Each student recites what they prepared while the teacher listens and marks their page, the group works on what is coming next, and the last twenty minutes go on whatever most of the room found hard. It is unhurried, which is a decision: somebody reciting under pressure makes mistakes that take longer to unlearn than they saved.
How much you take on between sessions is agreed with the teacher, not set by us. Two men in the same group can be moving at very different speeds and both be doing well, and that is why there are no grades here and no class years.
