Eight rooms and a roof terrace added over a guesthouse that could not close, on an island where every load arrives by boat.
Building above paying guests decides everything. Noisy work was confined to a window agreed with the owner and written into the programme, the scaffold was sheeted so the ground floor kept its view, and the concrete went in on two pours rather than four to cut the number of loud mornings in half.
Materials arrived as eight weekly loads, each one carrying that week's work and nothing else. Handed over four days before the first booking, which was the date the whole programme was written backwards from.
