Fehi Mart The week's shopping, delivered in Malé in a two hour window you choose
About us

One shop, one van, four streets

We are a corner shop that learned to deliver, not a delivery company that bought a shop.

Why the windows are small

Fehi Mart opened on Orchid Magu in 2017 as an ordinary neighbourhood shop. Delivery started because of one customer on the fourth floor of a building with no lift, and it grew from there by word of mouth in about three streets.

The shape of the business comes from one decision: each two hour window holds a fixed number of orders and no more. Seven in the early windows, ten in the busy ones. When a window fills it comes off the list. That is why nobody here has ever had to ring a customer at nine in the evening to explain that the van is still on the other side of Malé.

We also do our own shopping. The vegetables come off the market in the morning and are sold that day, and whatever is left at closing is not on the site the next morning pretending to be fresh. It is the reason the produce list is shorter than a supermarket's and the reason it is worth reading.

The shop itself is still open until eleven every night. Half the people who order from this site also walk in, and we prefer it that way.

Ali Rasheed

Owner

Opened the shop in 2017 and still does the market run himself most mornings. If the produce list is short on a given day, he is the reason.

Orders and accounts

Takes the phone orders, sends the invoices and is the person who rings you when the tomatoes are finished.

Deliveries

Drives the van and knows which buildings have a lift, which is a shorter list than you would hope.

Delivery

Getting it to your door

How do the windows work?

Every evening is split into two hour windows from four until ten. Each window holds a set number of orders, and once it is full it stops appearing.

You choose the window at checkout. We do not move your order into a different one without ringing you first.

What does delivery cost and is there a minimum?

Machchangolhi and Galolhu are 25 rufiyaa with a 150 rufiyaa minimum. Henveiru and Maafannu are 35 with a 200 minimum. Villimalé is 75 with a 400 minimum and the last window of the day does not run there. Hulhumalé is 90 with a 500 minimum.

The charge is per order and not per bag, so putting the sack of rice in the same basket as the biscuits costs nothing extra.

Do you carry it upstairs?

Yes, to your door, whatever floor it is on. The charge does not change with the floor.

If nobody is at home we ring the number on the order. If we cannot reach anybody the order comes back to the shop and we will bring it again in the next window rather than leaving food in a stairwell.
