A generator set of about six tonnes, going to an island whose quay has no crane and whose only lifting equipment is a hired excavator that was on another island that week.
The survey was the job. We measured the quay, the approach and the track to the plant room, worked out the tide window, and settled on landing it onto a flat barge alongside and skidding it ashore on rollers and steel plate. That plan was agreed and drawn before the unit left Male, because the alternative is a six tonne decision made by four men standing on a quay.
The lift took one tide. The unit went ashore, up the track and into the plant room in a single afternoon, and the barge went back on the same boat.
We charged for the survey separately and we would do that again. The survey was worth more than the carriage.
