A harbour reconstruction with a nine month programme, on an island with a small quay and nowhere dry to store bagged cement.
We took a standing weekly space for the whole job rather than booking sailing by sailing, so the site could work to the programme and bring a pour forward without asking anybody for a favour. Cement went in the covered hold, never under the aft hatch, which had been the cause of a spoiled load on the contractor's previous job with somebody else.
Three sailings were held for weather across the nine months, all of them in the same six weeks of September and October, and on each one we rang the site the evening before rather than the morning after. Two pours moved as a result, which is a normal wet season and a much better outcome than eight hundred wet bags.
Eleven hundred tonnes of cement, ninety tonnes of steel, four hundred cubic metres of aggregate. Nothing written off.
