A chemistry teacher on your island, at seven in the evening
Live classes six evenings a week and a library of recorded lessons you can watch at any hour. Maths, English and science from grade seven to A level, wherever you live.
Four things that make an online class actually work
Every live class is recorded
Miss it, lose the connection, or want it again at midnight. The recording is up within the hour and it never expires.
Twenty students, cameras optional
Small enough that a teacher can ask you something by name, and nobody is made to turn a camera on.
Built for a weak connection
Audio and slides only if the video will not hold, notes as a small file, and lessons you can download to watch without data.
Work marked by a person
Assignments are marked by hand with writing on them. An automatic score out of ten teaches nobody anything.
Live classes, recordings and examination courses
Six ways to study with us, from a monthly subscription to a marked practice paper.
Live evening classes
Three hundred and fifty rufiyaa a month for one subject. Two classes a week, at seven, eight or nine in the evening.
The recorded lesson library
Two hundred and fifty rufiyaa a month for six hundred and forty lessons across every subject and grade we teach.
O level examination courses
Nine hundred rufiyaa a subject for a term, with three marked practice examinations and a plan for the last six weeks.
A level courses
Mathematics, physics, chemistry and business studies, in groups of twelve, for students whose island has no teacher for them.
Marked assignments and practice papers
Two hundred and fifty rufiyaa for a full paper, sat properly and marked by a teacher who writes on it.
One to one online sessions
Two hundred and fifty rufiyaa an hour with a teacher, for a specific thing rather than for general improvement.
This year
Three that show what this is for
A student with no chemistry teacher, a school that borrowed our physics classes, and a working student doing A levels at night.
A student with no chemistry teacher
An island school with no chemistry specialist, a student who wanted to study medicine, and two years of evening classes.
A school that borrowed our physics classes
Twenty two students in grade eleven, one screen, one teacher in the room, and a school that now teaches it itself.
A level at night, around a job
Two A levels in eighteen months, almost entirely from recordings, studied between nine at night and midnight.
What students and parents say
My school had no chemistry teacher for three years. I joined in audio mode because my connection would not hold video, and downloaded the recordings at my aunt's house on Fridays. I got the place I wanted.
They sent me the lesson plans a week ahead, so by the end of the year I could teach the grade nine classes myself. They have made themselves less necessary to us on purpose.
I finish work at nine, so I watched every class as a recording the next morning. What I actually needed was weekly marking rather than more lessons, and they told me that.
The questions we answer at the help desk
How do I start?
With a free week. You get every live class in your grade and the whole recorded library for seven days.
No card is needed and nothing begins automatically at the end of it. If you want to continue you tell us, which is the opposite of how most of these arrangements work.
What does it cost?
Three hundred and fifty rufiyaa a month for one live subject, nine hundred for any three, and two hundred and fifty a month for the recorded library on its own. The library is free with any live subject.
Examination courses are nine hundred rufiyaa a subject for a term including three marked practice examinations. A level is one thousand two hundred a month. One to one is two hundred and fifty an hour.
What if I miss a class?
Watch the recording, which is up within the hour and never expires.
About a sixth of our students watch everything as a recording and do perfectly well. Missing a live class is not a problem here; missing the marked work is.
Do I have to turn my camera on?
No, and nobody is ever asked to. Many of our students are studying at a kitchen table with the family around them.
Questions can be asked by voice or by typing, and the teacher will call on you by name because the groups are about twenty rather than two hundred.
Can I use lessons from a different grade?
Yes. Nothing in the library is locked by grade, on purpose.
A grade ten student whose actual problem is a grade seven topic should be able to reach that lesson without asking anybody's permission, and that is the commonest use the library gets.
Try a full week, free
Every live class in your grade and the whole recorded library for seven days. No card, and nothing starts automatically afterwards.

Say what your connection is like in the evening. It changes what we recommend, and we would rather know now.
